The objective of the session is introduced through a video where the characters appear:
Cromanyó, that comes from Prehistory asks the students: How do the humans live? (this question includes: Where do they live? What do they do?). In this case, the questions are posed in Present simple, although the questions make reference to things that happened in the past. This is due to the fact that the Past simple is a content that is introduced in 6th grade. The instructor preferred to do it this way for the students to interiorize the Present simple, a content that is worked in 5th grade. In order to facilitate this research of information, the teacher asks the students for expressions that may be useful to answer the question and writes on the blackboard these expressions (e.g: They live in..., they are…, they work as...). She guides the task by making a drawing of the cardboard in the blackboard and dividing it into four pieces, so as for the students to understand where they have to put each question and its answer. |
Afterwards, the materials are provided to the children: a cardboard, two booklets (two copies of the same booklet), a dictionary, a key vocabulary card and a role card to each group.
The teacher divides the students in heterogeneous groups (that are already created), and the students start to research the information and answer the question in groups. The teacher gives an attitudinal self-assessment to each student to complete at home and bring it the next session. |
