INTRODUCTIONTeaching sequence: Travelling through history! This didactical sequence is about the periods of the history of humanity. It was carried out in the A.B. school, which is located in Barcelona. It was addressed to students from 5th grade.
The main purpose of this sequence is that students understand that humans have not always lived in the same way, but we have evolved over time. Bearing this in mind, what is intended is that pupils acquire a structured vision of the different periods by which the man has passed through to our days, in order to get to know our past, to understand our present and to be able to improve our future. This objective is achieved by doing a investigation about the periods. Besides, this inquiry has an engaging purpose: to help 4 well-known characters of the previous periods of history that have appeared in the Contemporary history return to their period. Moreover, the investigation leads to the elaboration of a final product, which is a presentation in groups about the periods. This final output has a real audience: the relatives of the pupils and the other students of the school, as the presentation is recorded and uploaded on the school website. The T.S. consists of 7 sessions. The first one is an introductory session which is useful for the teacher to see the previous knowledge of students about the topic. The second, the third, the fourth and the fifth one are sessions that are dedicated to the development of a project. This project consists of investigating about the different periods of history. Likewise, the sixth session is focused on the final output: the presentations. Finally, the seventh session is centered on reflecting about the knowledge learnt and checking if the students have acquired the required understandings. Here I add you the link where you can access to the Teaching sequence chart, in which the objectives, contents, competences, forms of social organization, the timings, the materials, the measures to attend diversity and the type of assessment of each session are explained. In this website you will find a detailed description of all the sessions. I hope you enjoy it and apply it to your classroom!
